Ōrula[1] (b. Ūga Azi; f.k.a. the "Third Ancestor"; nicknamed "The Scorpion" in his prime or simply referred to as "Scorpion") was a Kunaman warrior from an unknown world, former protector of the Third Temple and one of the Eight Ancestors. He was a primary user of Source aṣhẹ and the original wielder of the Kunama eye, an oju iyipada. The Kunama is named after his kind, the Kunamu species for unspecified reasons.

Early Life

as "The Scorpion"

Not much is stated of the Third Ancestor's life as the Scorpion except it was alluded that he was extremely respected and even revered by the Eighth Ancestor. The Seventh Ancestor also stated that to the Sixth:

“The Third will call hisss ifa, this isss one reason why he wasss nicknamed the Scorpion, I know he told usss to contribute asss we like but you must know the Third’sss nature is humility. He isss the ssstrongessst fighter of usss. At thisss point we will only get in the way. We will ssstep in for the finissshing blow” - the Seventh Ancestor to the Sixth.[2]

The Seventh tells the others that the reason that Orula was nicknamed "Scorpion" was because of his mastery of the Scorpion's Poem.

The Third Ancestor like his cohorts was one of eight chosen and lifted into the Karfe Stars were he under went training to master his ashe for an extensive period of time.

Battle of the Beginning

Post "Battle of the Beginning"

After the defeat of the Eighth Ancestor, the Third Ancestor denounced his role as an ancestor and protector of the Third Temple to become a nomad and eventual dema to the remaining Kasairi and the Taurari, whom were kept locked up in the Eighth's lab by their creator. Citing that leaving both races to their own vices would be a greater threat if they acquired the power of the Ìyààmi.[3] The Ìyààmi, still under the will of the Eighth at the time of his defeat were set free into the world in which the Third vowed to hunt and kill.[4] The Second Ancestor told the Third that more Ancestors would be sent to guide the Third throughout his journey on Ḳasa, herding both the Ḳasairi and Taurari. At the top of the great mountains is where they would meet.[5]

Ifaiya Technique and Ifa

The Third Ancestor is able to use the Ifaiya technique to call upon the his ifa, Àkèkéé.[6]

Seer Abilities

Amongst the Eight Ancestors, the Third is quite powerful in his ability to for see the future. When he announced his want to stay on Ḳasa, none of the other Ancestors questioned his foresight, including the Second[7] who was also a talented master seer. The Third is able to tap into psychic aṣhẹ even without the Nauku eye.

Physical Appearance

The Eighth Ancestor is seen wearing a horned ancient headdress that cover his eyes, whilst straw hangs from his nose, forming a beard. Covering his garments is a chest plate of armor made of a scorpion exoskeleton with multiple eyes placed on the armor and its claws tightly pinching tassels. The Third is almost always seen wearing elegant sanyan robes.

as a Nomad

After the "Battle of the Beginning", the Third Ancestor removed his headdress, dropping it into the dirt as a declaration of no longer being apart of the Eight Ancestors but still veiled his face by wearing a hood. His torn up robes weren't replaced but later discarded.[8] But years later he is seen wearing new robes, and has grown an actual beard.
